15. The Family Courtyard

From its earliest days on this site, Wolfson has prized its families. Family houses built around a common courtyard have provided safe and community-based spaces for generations of Wolfson students and fellows. The College nursery, again set up early on with the generous and anonymous support of Isaiah Berlin’s wife Aline, has also given the College a family-feel. Crocodile lines of small children walking across the lawns and into the allotments are a regular feature of College life; the main dining Hall is famous for having no high table but plenty of high chairs.
