Dr Janet DeLaine’s research is situated broadly in the field of Roman architecture and urbanism, particularly in relation to the Roman building industry, Rome’s port city of Ostia, and Roman baths. Currently DeLaine is in the final stages of preparing a volume on Roman architecture for the Oxford History of Art series.
DeLaine’s long-term study of the urban development of Roman Ostia has expanded recently to include the related harbour at Portus, as the architectural specialist on the British School at Rome’s major project there.
