Electric Minibus Arrives at Wolfson

At Wolfson, ‘the natural home for postgraduates’ is more than just a catchphrase. This week, we celebrated the arrival of our brand-new, electric minibus – the latest development in our decarbonisation plan.

Our award-winning project to decarbonise the College has so far seen the replacement of all of our windows with high-tech triple-glazing, the installation of cutting-edge, bespoke heat pumps to eliminate all fossil fuel use in our buildings, and the roll-out of a pedal-powered postal service.

As part of that work, this week Wolfson took delivery of Oxford’s first electric minibus, estimated to save 8600kg in carbon emissions every year. The 14-seater bus has a 119-mile range, allowing it comfortably to cover the 74 miles it travels every single day on its trips between the College and Oxford city center before recharging overnight.

Wolfson College has been running a minibus service for forty-five years to transport our researchers and staff back and forth across Oxford. This latest edition to our iconic service, customised with Wolfson branding, is our most exciting yet. The full decarbonisation project is due to be completed in early December 2023.
