Fireworks & Fundraising: Wolfson Raises £1200+ for AMREF

Friday 1st November was mild and dry, ideal for Wolfson’s annual Fireworks Display, with fabulous rockets set off by the Home Bursar, Chris Licence, and his team of pyrotechnicians.

Hundreds of college members and their families, together with neighbours from the local streets, poured into the College to enjoy the spectacle, with fireworks flying up into the night sky from the island across from the Harbour Lawn. There were delicious offerings from food vans in the South Car Park, as well as mulled wine on the lawn.

This is one of several events in the year when the AMREF team takes the opportunity to fund-raise for our official college charity, which for over forty years has been providing full scholarships and other resources for community medical students in East Africa.

Your generosity on Fireworks Night this year raised over £1200!

Early in December we will send the sum we’ve raised to AMREF, to take advantage of a wonderful scheme where our entire contribution will be matched and doubled. So we’re delighted that this year we’re hoping to be able to support two full scholarships!

Our next AMREF event will be a Bake Sale on Monday 25 November, 10.30am-14.00pm in the Café. If you’d like to contribute to our mouth-watering array of cakes (vegan and gluten-free options available), or could help us sell the cakes on the day, please contact: Christina Redfield  – christina.redfield@wolfson.ox.ac.uk
