Gurcharan Das’s memoir ‘Another Sort of Freedom’ goes to print
Congratulations to Gurcharan Das on the upcoming publication of his memoir, Another Sort of Freedom. The memoir, due to be published this November, was written during Mr Das’s tenure as a Visiting Scholar at Wolfson College during Trinity Term 2023.
Gurcharan Das is a highly-acclaimed historian, novelist and essayist, and is one of India’s most successful businessmen. Alongside his literary output, which includes the award-winning play Mira (1970) and the acclaimed India Unbound (2000), Mr Das was also CEO of Procter & Gamble India and South East Asia before becoming MD at Procter & Gamble Worldwide.
Gurcharan said of his time in Oxford: “it was a lovely sojourn at Wolfson, full of research on the Sanskrit word moksha, as interpreted by the atheistic schools of Hinduism; writing my book every morning from 5 am to 8 am; and some intellectually exciting meetings with faculty and students. I couldn’t have asked for more. I must say Wolfson functions brilliantly, everyone’s so polite and helpful.”
Another Sort of Freedom is set to be published in India by Penguin Random House in November.
