Wolfson Fellow to give ‘starry’ workshop at University of Adelaide
The University of Adelaide’s School of Humanities is currently hosting Wolfson GBF Professor Elleke Boehmer as one of its inaugural International Fellows.
While in Adelaide, Professor Boehmer will convene a workshop on Southern Stars, and Night Skies in Australian Writing, an interdisciplinary exploration of the southern celestial wonders and their influence on storytelling in Australia.
The workshop, on 7th November, will bring together several renowned speakers including Eugenia Flynn discussing personal narratives in relation to Country, and a collaborative session with Stephen Muecke and Samuel J. Cox on the constellations guiding journeys to Broome. An online panel of astrophysicists will delve into the mysteries of observing the far southern skies, followed by a wide-ranging conversation between Lynda Ng and Elleke Boehmer on themes in Alexis Wright’s Carpentaria.
More information on the workshop and on Professor Boehmer’s work can be found here. She will be in Adelaide until mid-November and welcomes contact from any Wolfsonians who may also find themselves in the city.
