Wolfson student makes history with Space Innovation Lab group

Wolfson DPhil Student, Declan Moran, is part of a team from the University of Oxford’s Space Innovation Lab (SIL) which has sent the first human tissue samples into space in an effort to learn more about ageing processes on earth.

The samples were sent to the International Space Station (ISS), by way of the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and will be used to study the effects of space micro-gravity on the human ageing process.

The laboratory, the first of its kind in the UK, opened in July 2023 and is led by Oxford University’s Dr Ghada Alsaleh. The researchers have direct operational connection to the ISS to follow their research experiments.

Wolfson would like to congratulate Declan for this incredible achievement and wish him and the rest of the team luck as their work progresses.
